Android tablets and device management

Your first tablet in three steps

No prior knowledge of APK files or mobile device management needed.

01

Launch MDM on Windows

Open WALTRONE MDM and start the setup wizard. It will guide you through devices, groups, and profiles.

02

Obtain the signed Android agent

Managing tablets requires a compatible WALTRONE Agent APK. Ask your IT administrator for the file. If you're setting this up yourself, WALTRONE Support can help you find the official distribution method.

03

Select the APK and enroll

In the “WALTRONE Agent” wizard step, select the existing file. Continue setup and enroll your tablet using the supported QR process.

Where can I obtain the APK? From your IT department or by contacting WALTRONE Support. The Microsoft Store edition does not promote external APK downloads. Avoid files from untrusted sources.

How setup works

The essential steps in more detail.

In the Windows setup wizard

  1. Open WALTRONE MDM and select your device type.
  2. Set up your first group, Wi-Fi details, and access credentials.
  3. At “WALTRONE Agent”, click “Choose file”.
  4. Select the compatible, signed APK supplied by your IT administrator or WALTRONE and continue.

On the Android tablet

  1. Ensure the tablet can reach the Windows MDM server over your network.
  2. Use the supported Android first-time setup process and the correct QR code.
  3. Follow the prompts on the tablet, then verify the status in WALTRONE MDM.

Device Owner features require appropriate Android provisioning. Do not reset existing devices without authorization.

About the server address: 127.0.0.1 always refers to the current device. Your tablet cannot use it to access the Windows MDM PC. The enrollment QR code must point to a server address the tablet can reach; verify network and HTTPS settings.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common first-time setup questions.

What is an APK?

An APK is an Android app installation file. The WALTRONE agent is the Android component required to manage tablets.

I don't have the agent file yet. What should I do?

Request a compatible, signed WALTRONE Agent APK from your IT administrator. If you're setting things up yourself, WALTRONE Support can explain the official distribution method. The Store app does not provide a direct external APK download.

Can I just install the APK manually?

No. Installing the APK manually does not automatically enable Android Device Owner mode. Use the supported provisioning and QR workflow for the relevant management features.

Which agent version do I need?

Use an agent APK that is signed and compatible with your WALTRONE MDM release. Check version details in WALTRONE MDM or ask your IT administrator or Support.

Will the agent update itself from the internet?

The Store edition does not promote external agent downloads. A new APK is used for device provisioning only after it has been provided or imported. Actual update behavior depends on your setup.
